In one line

PrivateBooks is free, local bookkeeping for small-business owners — it turns bank and credit-card statements into tax-ready books, entirely on your own computer, with no account and nothing uploaded.

Boilerplate

PrivateBooks is a free desktop bookkeeping app for small-business owners who aren't accountants. It imports bank and credit-card statements, automatically sorts transactions into tax categories, and produces tax-ready output — a Profit & Loss and a Schedule C (or 1065/1120-S/1120) summary — that owners can hand straight to their preparer. Unlike cloud bookkeeping services, PrivateBooks runs entirely on the user's own computer: there is no account, no cloud sync, and the app makes no network calls, so a business's financial data never leaves its machine. PrivateBooks is available free for macOS (a Windows build is on the way) at privatebooks.org.
